Project Summary:

A Small Business with 3 employees needed to have an ebook application to create ebooks based on dynamic text, images, audio, video, and other content. They wanted to have the application as dynamic as possible, and maintain a rock-solid reliability within the software. This software was intended for resale, so application size and speed was critical. The timeframe to complete this project was tight, as this deadline had cascade effects.

Result:

We used an existing application that allowed the dynamic creation of the text based content for this project. We added on many features in the main software package, and created an ebook compiler that worked together with the original software. To maintain speed in the software, and hold true to the dynamic creation of the content; our client approved the use of a second interface for the ebook compiler section.

The second ebook interface is where the user is able to add any type of file, including standard text, spreadsheets, databases, video, and audio files to compliment the text content of the ebook. The ebook software compiles all the files into one large bundle using 1024 bit encryption on the files, and keeps those files only in RAM until they are in use; thus ensuring excellent file security during distribution of the ebook product for the user.

We created the help system for the entire 'suite' of interfaces, and provided in-depth instructions that are easy to understand for the end user. Using an ordered step approach (Step 1, Step 2), the users will be able to quickly create an ebook with no experience. The help system is integrated right into the interface, allowing a user to click on a section and view instructions on what to do, and helpful tips.

After creating the help files with a plain gray screen, we added in some dynamic code to allow easy changes to the color layout of the program, including buttons, backgrounds, and text. It will take less than 2 minutes to create multiple color versions of the same program, so a new look is easy to obtain, and helps sales.
